"This is What I Know About Art"

“(I am still at a loss for where I got the confidence to do so, but I am forever grateful to the version of myself that said yes. Yes to learning more about Black art. Yes to making the things that I knew I needed to see in the world.)” page 15.

I loved this phrase said by Kimberly Drew because I think that many times, we don't do the things we want for fear of what people will say because we don't feel capable or for fear of failing. With this quote and thought from her I understood that the things in which we do not have much faith may end up being worth it and being a great achievement in our lives. More than anything in this case she wanted to do something that she believed the world needed to see, she wanted to inform, and she wanted the art of black people not to disappear. Kimberly Drew is an admirable person.

“The Studio Museum had taken a chance on me, and I wanted to take a chance on the art world.” page 15.

I selected this quote because I think it also highlights what I mentioned previously, and that is that in this case, for example, if The Studio Museum had taken a risk with her and managed to have a positive impact, why would she not take the risk of leaving her mark on the world of art In my opinion, the phrase "he who does not succeed does not win" is significantly linked to the experiences that Kimberly Drew writes in her book.

“I also discovered writings by Carter G. Woodson, the founder of Negro History Week, which would later grow to become Black History Month. He wrote that “If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated.” page 16.

I chose that phrase because it is very real, and it is worth being here for many to read. This, according to the book, was what motivated Kimberly even more to fill her blog with black art and to research a lot more about the names of black people, since she did not want them to be forgotten, she did not want other people to believe that her Culture has not influenced art, but above all I wanted them to be remembered. At the beginning of her book, she mentions that she hopes that those of us reading her book will take certain pauses to also investigate the artists she mentions.

This image filled my heart. Starting with what is behind the women "Love Positive Women" from there I could assume that it was an image of support for women and that is really good. Personally, I have spent a lot of time on the internet trying to find places that provide support or share ideas for the personal growth of women, and in most cases, it is difficult for me to find them, that is why I was interested and chose this image... When reading the description of the image said that it is "Love Positive Women" It was about different events with Valentine's Day as a backdrop, in which Kimberly in her blog says that they created a platform for individuals and communities to come together to participate in public and private acts of love and care for women identified as having HIV disease. He also mentioned that LPW focused on the ideas of connection, relationship building, self-love, and love for community.
