On Photography by Susan Sontag
"Photographs furnish evidence. Something we hear about, but doubt, seems proven when we're shown a photograph of it."
I chose this quote because I agree with this statement, I believe once a photo is taken it will exist forever, and with that, it can prove that certain situations occurred or were experienced.
"The first cameras, made in France and England in the early 1840s, had only inventors and buffs to operate them."
I chose this statement because I never knew where or when the first cameras were made for that was very interesting for me to read.
The Art of Activism by Steve Duncombe & Steve Lambert
"Social movement scholar Marshall Ganz argues that experiences and feelings of urgency, hope, love, anger, dignity, and solidarity are at the core of people’s politicization." Pg.24
I chose this statement because I never thought about politics in this sense, I agree with Marshall Ganz, if you haven't experienced a particular situation that brings out certain emotions how can you advocate for it.
"Artistic activism is neither wholly art nor activism, but is somewhere in between." pg. 46
I like this quote because it made me have to read and a few times to actually grasp the meaning. When I first read it I automatically thought about what it meant to me. I thought about how artistic activism can't be called art due to its use to bring awareness, but you can't call it activism either because it's a form of expression not necessarily the action.
