Hi everyone, my name is Maximilian del Rosario, but you can just call me Max, and I use they/them pronouns. I'm a super senior? This is my 9th semester due to COVID making me cut my credit load and my major being...a lot. This is my second class with Professor Caçoilo. I'm a music major with a specialization in Classical Voice and Opera (before you ask, I basically force myself singing into any assignment I can, as Prof. is very aware.) I'm also genderfluid nonbinary and first-generation Filipino-American. I am very passionate about the intersection of my identities and my future industry. Despite being a very nontraditional art form when it comes to gender to begin with ("pants roles", or roles where women play male characters are very common), the acknowledgment of queer identities in the world of opera is still far behind many other art forms, On the other hand, opera has had a long history of orientalism and exoticism in a way that is still prevalent to this day. Because of this, activism within the arts is a topic that interests me greatly, and I can't wait to take this class with you guys.
