For my intervention, I wanted to advocate for gun control in America as this is a topic that is very controversial. In my video, I showcased posters that highlighted stats regarding children, gun violence, and school shootings. These posters included statements such as “Guns are the leading cause of death among American children and teens.”, “In 2022, 34 students and adults died while more than 43,000 children were exposed to gunfire at school.”, and “Since 1999, more than 339,000 students in the U.S. have experienced gun violence at school.” These states help spread important information on the gun problem in America and how children are at threat of the legalization put in place by the government
With my video, I aim to gather the attention of children, teens, and parents because this is a common problem that all three are facing as a society today. I am passionate about this topic because I can relate to it, In my middle school (Ms 4) someone brought a gun to school. This led to the school being on lockdown and police swarming classroom to classroom making this event very horrific for me. Luckily, the person never actually shot the gun but the experience alone made me feel hopeless. This is something that no student should have to face and with my video, I am hoping to spread this information to my community to better everyone’s experience and allow school to be a safe place for children. Also as an inspiring teacher, I want to advocate for the safety of schools.
The Hispanic Executive article states, "The act of experiencing a space, memory, or feeling is simultaneously an opportunity to reflect, meditate, and explore." This quote emphasizes that our interaction with the world, and our past allows us numerous opportunities for self-reflection and growth. Another quote is “Shifting attention from the art object to the artist’s action further suggested that art existed in real space and real time.” Viewing art from the artist's point of view allows you to step into someone else's world and connect to the artist. In the Yoko Ono article, it states "She allowed her Japanese education and American artistic formation to merge into a new mindfulness." She allowed her life lessons and experiences to show through her art and made her known as a feminist activist. This is relatable because I try to relate my interventions to my background and personal experiences, allowing me to connect more with the project and allowing the advocacy to be truly genuine.
