11/8/23 - Foday

                                                                        Chapter 3

"Performance is useful for dramatizing what already exists. Sometimes reality needs help."

Seeing the rewards of your work ethic can cause one to even want to work harder. It adds that little reiteration of purpose and a taste on success and winning that go getters tend to get addicted to as it is necessary to reach the end goal or stay in allignement.

"It takes at least two people for a joke to work"

This can tie in to the it takes a village saying and the importance and strength in having an audience especially if you have a message to share.

"Important political messages can be communicated through performance, song, images and symbols, appealing to different senses."

Rest in Power to the King of Pop Michael Jackson who was knowned to do this. For examples in songs like black or white and human nature he advocated to see beyond color and to work in unity and love while also caring for the Eath with love and appreciation.

'It often forces us to think about issues in a way that can be disturbing and uncomfortable, but it can also make us laugh by calling attention to the absurdities in life and the idiosyncrasies of human behavior."

Comedians are great example of what comes to mind when reading this. As many tend to mock real life issues and bring awareness on harsh topics of reality through jokes. Its kind of a genius form of activism while some may not take the information to literally the message is still being projected towards you even if its subconsciously.

"Shiraga pushed back against the desire to create great works of “social significance or commercial value,” arguing that a focus on spirit and personal expression will create works that connect to others and accrue cultural value."

I really agreed with what Shiraga says here as it makes art more human and alive not just something dead or only valuable because of money, but of its importance and hidden meanings etc.

Widewalls | Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Activist and Fighter

"Yoko Ono still stands proud and strong after decades of misconception, misunderstanding and unfairness."

Being an activist or an authentic leader is not a position for someone weakminded. Especially if your trying to advocate for an ideal or belief that goes against the grain they'll always be opposition. I just wanted to comment Yoko Ono for not detering in her will to fight for what she believes in and her deeds are inspiring to leaders such as myself.

"Her style often included “dematerialization of the art object,”

This reiterates on what I spoke about earlier in just looking at art as material but seeing beyond materialism and let the spirit, the messages and meanings of the art peace flow through you without judgement but accepting the meaning or appreciating the curiosity for understanding.

Hispanic Executive | Interview with Shaun Leonardo - Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy

"For a white student, particularly a young white student, seeing the mode of expression of an artist of color can shift as much of their worldview as it does for a student of color."

I truly believe in this as art is known to bridge gaps between cultures. As art in forms of expression can target emotions/ curiosities one may have have never lied dormant in consciousness. As many activist in the past protest or boycotted for awareness in their cause which may have even caused the opposition forces to reflect on what are they fighting for and is correct to remain in that belief.

"I do equate that stubbornness and conviction with the same work ethic that my parents filled me with."

This relates to me as I also get my tenacity from my father as I'm his first born son watching him hustle to take care of us as a single parent till this day lights a fir in me to make him proud and be the best version of myself.
