Chapter 2 quotes Shaneena McGee

"First forget inspiration. Habit us more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not... Habit is persistence in practice." -Octavia E. Butler. (Title page of chapter 2)

1) This quote is a personal sentiment I also believe in. Repetition is important for me as a person, the more I continue doing an action I grow to improve that action. No matter how long it times or how slow the change is, I feel and see myself persisting in my work, hobbies or chores if I continue to make a habit out of doing them. Yes chores count as something to make a habit because the more you fold your laundry after taking it out the dryer the less wrinkles you'll find yourself having in clothes which means less ironing.

"In order for our creativity to progress, we need to allow ourselves the freedom to make fools of ourselves." (Pg.58)

2) I find these words to be important. I like many others are afraid to dive into the things which make me happy. For example skateboard is a form of expression, I wanted to learn and still do however I'm afraid to fall on my face and others discourage me from the idea. Watching cartoons makes me happy and I get ideas for stories while seeing them, however as a grown up I'm told watching them is foolish and immature, those comments stop me from writing stories and yet look at those who continued despite those words. It's why I enjoy this quote.

"No single action or artwork will cause a revolution or topple a government. If we hold ourselves to that standard, then everything is a failure." (Pg.80)

3) I feel as if, in today's society we need to hear this quote a lot. We need to say this to the celebrities we admire, or writers we read, animators who projects we watch, and comedians who's comedy we listen to. Sometimes they can donate or have a stance on something and then the second they're not doing more or they're flexible in their stance, social media is ready to call them the most atrocious things we shouldn't be saying to anyone face to face let alone through a screen. I never understand why we all hold ourselves or others to such a standard or mindset, like me or this one person has the power to change everything wrong with our government or people. We're human, it's just not possible alone, we as a society need to stop acting as if we forgot there's a limit to power.
