Bell Hooks Quotes - " I did not listen. His voice grew louder and louder. Then suddenly, he snatched me up, broke a board from our screen door, and began to beat me with it, telling me "you're just a little girl. When I tell you to do something, I mean for you to do it!" He beat me and beat me, wanting me to acknowledge that I understood what I had done. His rage, his violence captured everyone's attention."
This quote represents how having a perspective of the patriarchal values and beliefs about gender influences violence and bias in a household towards a young female child. I recently watched the movie Matilda, where the same kind of views were presented in the first few scenes of the movie. The young female child was yelled at and disciplined in an aggressive manner. In turn, the father's neglect to perceive how this can affect their daughter's mental health and in case create a sense of rebellion, pain, and reflect as mental and emotional abuse. Implementing this kind of discipline based on beliefs taught my the patriarchy can brain wash women to feel powerless and deflect their own interests; silencing their voices at such young ages.

"it was a reminder to everyone watching, remembering... that our patriarchal father was the ruler of our household. We were to remember that if we didn't obey his rules, we would be punished, punished even into death. This is the way we were experimentally schooled in the art of patriarchy."

"By placing the blame for the perpetuation of sex is solely on men, these women could maintain their own allegiance to the patriarchy, their own last for power. They mask their longing to be dominators by taking on the mantle of victimhood."

The idea that women accepted their role of victimhood in society and used that as their power is mind boggling. But yet, if they were to choose any other way of being, they would be rebelling against the patriarchy with an approach of independence and aggression. the sense of not needing men and not allowing themselves to be held back would grow as their mindset and way of being as they approach navigating society.

Memes Article Quotes - "Taking their cue, internet saboteurs let loose, spewing multitudes of scathing interactions where in the president shows off a child's sketchbook to the American people. "Im the president and I like to draw," reads the tagline of @trumpdraws, a twitter account dedicated to Trump's executive order memes. It has already amassed over 350,000 followers thanks to the scrawled drawings of "Kat", "Dinosaur" and SpongeBob squarepants my friends."
This quote brings light to how Presidents like president Trump plays with the idea of media and attention seeking. He uses his power to take advantage of the popularity that he gains from partaking in constant social media activities. For him, the political game became humorous, for me its definitely cringey.

"In recent internet history, politicians have set themselves up for ridicule by providing the perfect conditions for their memeification. More than just humorous interventions, these memes undermine the pretensions of power and respect politicians use as a de-facto method for quieting dissent and broadcasting their often contemptuous messages."
Honestly this kind of self mockery that politicians intentionally subject them selves to is kind of pathetic. What sad is that it works and it grabs all of our attention because of how powerful the media is and how we are all so easily fooled, especially when we will all choose to rather be entertain than see the truth.

The Art of Activist Quote 1 - "Most people would not define themselves as activists either. Yet, in a sense, we all do forms of activism every day: organizing a group of people to go to a movie or picking a restaurant; lobbying parents for extra screen-time or your boss for a raise; talking a friend out of a bad relationship. All being an activist really entails is having an idea of what needs to be changed and doing something about it."
This is a great quote in the introduction of the book because it give the reader or someone who is new to the concepts of activism, an idea of way activism can be apart of your everyday life whether its intentional or unintentional. Really its about mindset and having the intent to make a change to something occurring in your reality. its about taking initiative and embracing the opportunity to create change or a difference, big or small.

The Art of Activist Quote 2 - "Now, think again for a moment about how most activists often build membership in their movements. How do they convince new-comers to step off the curb of indifference and join in our struggle for a new world? Activists ambush people on the street, clipboard in hand, asking people to sign petitions and donate money. We stuff fact-filled flyers and pamphlets into people’s hands. We build websites where people can access information. We organize public forums at which people can hear the truth from experts, and fantasize about having the media reach of a cable news station. We dump overwhelming amounts of often depressing information about the world on people, and then expect them to be energized and excited about joining us. This is routine activist practice."

This quote talks about the idea of pushing people off the curb when it comes to activism. kind of activating the will or the need to start something that will create change or at least influence other people enough to participate in such movements. This is a great way to help people have a broader perspective on that the routine practice of activism is. It also brings awareness to how activists can build movements and a community that prescribes to the cause they are striving for.
